I'm using a Winpod 5.5G and installing manually. I had partitioned the iPod, and I was about to format the new partition when suddenly there was a power surge. The breaker in my surge protector went out, shutting my computer off and restarting my iPod. Now it shows the apple logo screen, restarts, shows the screen again, and repeats until the battery dies. I tried all the button combinations, which didn't do anything. I tried plugging it in to the computer, which doesn't change it's behavior. The computer can't see it at all, and that includes Windows and iTunes. I was wondering whether there was a way to fix this. I have a horrible feeling that it's just a paper weight now, which sucks because it just passed it's warranty a few weeks ago. Please help, if you can. Thanks in advance.

Can you get it into disk mode? You should always be able to do so, just keep trying if you cant.

I tried disk mode about two hundred times by now, with no luck. It responds to nothing.

... Ohhkay ... ?
So apparently five hundredth time is the charm, I see what you mean by "just keep trying".
After doing the same thing every few seconds for a few hours this afternoon (I'm really bored because I don't have my music) I finally got it into disk mode somehow. I then restored it through iTunes, installed iPod Linux, and am currently happily listening to "Stupified" by Disturbed. Thank you, zowki, for if it wasn't for your "just keep trying" I probably would have lost all hope and wasted another hundred dollars on another iPod. If I have any more problems, I'll come back.

I understand your plight. I once had to go through that process on my ipod nano. Apparently my 5g ipod always gets it the first time.
